About the Journal

Journal KURAU (Tropical Fisheries and Marine Science) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Department of Fisheries Resources Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Universitas Riau since 2023. The name "KURAU" is derived from the Fourfinger Threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum), a signature fish species of Riau's tropical coastal waters, symbolizing local identity and the region's aquatic biodiversity. The journal serves as a platform for publishing scientific research, analytical reviews, and technological innovations aimed at advancing the sustainable utilization and management of tropical marine and fisheries resources.

The journal’s focus and scope are closely aligned with its core academic disciplines, encompassing fishing technology and systems, fishing vessel design, gear selectivity, as well as stock assessment and fish population dynamics. Furthermore, the journal covers the exploration of fishing grounds using fisheries oceanography, remote sensing, and geographic information systems, alongside capture fisheries management policies, the socio-economics of fishing communities, local wisdom, and the conservation of tropical bio-ecological marine environments.
